Why Blockchain Publishing?

Since the Comics Code was introduced decades ago, the powerful messaging of comics has been controlled.

Even today, comics and creators that don’t fit within modern societal ideals are canceled, deplatformed, funds are withheld from crowd-funding, and more.

Our mission is to let creators tell their stories, without censorship. And blockchain is the technology that makes this possible.

How Blockchain Works

Blockchain runs separate from any banking system and does not need approval from banks or ecommerce merchants. Anyone in the world can use an exchange, like Coinbase or Transak, to purchase cryptocurrency. This currency becomes a simple transaction between two people, no bank or middleman involved.

The transaction is recorded on the blockchain and is essentially immutable (meaning it can’t be altered or hacked).

Benefits of Blockchain

By publishing your comic on the blockchain, you are making it digitally collectible. As the buyer of a blockchain comic, you can collect or resell your comics.

Every time a comic is resold, the original creator earns royalties from the resale.

Creators can publish what they want, without fear of being censored.

The Downside of Blockchain

This is still a new technology, and it can be hard to understand and trust.

Blockchain books must be purchased using cryptocurrency. Collectors must purchase cryptocurrency through an exchange, such as Coinbase or Transak. Learn more about this process here.

We are working hard to simplify this process. As more industries use blockchain, and more people make purchases with cryptocurrency, this tech will continue to grow.

Help us bring change to the comic book industry and support indie creators.

Question
Publishing to the Polygon Blockchain
Answer

You can choose to make your book or art available to be minted on the Polygon Blockchain by selecting that option on the details page of your book set up.

Once your book is approved, it will be available on the Polygon blockchain as a Digital Collectible. Learn more about Digital Collectibles.

You can select how many Digital Collectible copies will be made available for purchase. NOTE: You cannot increase the amount once your book is published to the blockchain.

You can set any number of copies that you choose. Keep in mind that the value of Digital Collectibles can be determined in part by their scarcity.

Buyers will need to use POL to purchase a Digital Collectible on Polygon, and you will be paid royalties in POL. Buyers can choose to read and hold your Digital Collectible book, or they can resell the book to others in the Marketplace. Anytime the book is resold, you as the publishers will receive royalties in the form of POL.

All POL will be stored in your CryptoComics Wallet, and you can use it to make purchases or withdraw to an external wallet or exchange. In an exchange, such as Coinbase, you can exchange your POL for USD ($) or other currency.

Gas Fees: A gas fee is the amount of currency required for a blockchain network user to conduct a transaction on the network. Gas fees are used to compensate miners for their work in verifying transactions and securing the network. CryptoComics is currently covering these gas fees for publishers.
